Burns Night

The photo above is from a Burns Night held at the Mill Inn, Condor Green on Saturday 7th February. In the picture from left to right are Brian and Sheila Ferrington, our hosts Susan and Richard Cowie and Linda and Bill Wood. It was an excellent night and we raised £386 for South Lakend Carers.

Brian Completes His Walk
Brian Ferrington, finally completed the 1000 mile walk across Cumbria, which was his designated fund-raising project during his year in office as Master of Heversham Lodge.

He succeeded in raising over £4500 for South Lakeland Carers Association.

The amazing Five In A Bar
a capella Group.

The group recently appeared at a special fund-raising event at the Castle St Centre in Kendal, and are pictured here with Val, our Volunteer Co-ordinator (centre). They wowed the audience with wonderful harmonies. Also in the picture below is Clare Feeney Johnson, the new mayor, and Steve Pollard (SLCA Director).

A big thank you to Elaine and Mary who did the teas, all who helped and supported the event on the day, and Andrew whose work with the sound system was second to none. £146 was raised for carers.

Greenhalgh's Craft Bakery raises £800

Greenhalgh's town centre shop in Kendal have raised more than £800 for The Princess Royal Trust for Carers with their 'Local Heroes' campaign. Customers bought hundreds of jam filled smiley-face shortbread biscuits to raise the money. The cash will go towards activities and fun days for young carers.

Support for Carers in Cumbria

In the New Year Cumbria county Council Health and Scrutiny Committee are looking into the support provided to carers in Cumbria. As part of this process they would like a small number of carers to conduct interviews with other carers in the area.

Within South Lakeland they would like one or two carers to interview a further ten carers. The Committee has asked us to help them find both the carers to do the interviewing and the 10 carers to be interviewed.

At the present time we are not sure of the format but it will be an informal interview probably taking a maximum of a couple of hours on a one-to-one basis, using an agreed set of questions.

The Committee will provide training for the 2 carers who will be conducting the interviews.
