Brian's 1000 Mile Walk

Hi Everyone

I have now completed my 1000 mile sponsored walk for the South Lakeland Carers Association.

What a wonderful adventure it has been and very challenging at times. Despite the wind, rain, hail, snow, ice, thunderstorms and heat waves, not to mention the blisters, Achilles tendon injury, coughs and colds, more blisters, sciatica, back ache and recovering from one or two hangovers along the way, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I have also had the pleasure of meeting many of the workers and volunteers who support the work of the South Lakeland Carers. I greatly admire their dedication and determination in offering the highest standards of service to those in need.

Along the numerous miles, I have taken many photographs and it is my intention to hold a photographic exhibition of some of the more outstanding pictures.

As you will recall, when I became Master of Heversham Lodge, my nominated charity for my year in office was the South Lakeland Carers Association.

My main objectives were to support and promote the South Lakeland Carers Association in a practical sense by trying to raise awareness and much needed extra funds.

Secondly, to promote Masonic Charity in the Community and to raise awareness of the charitable works Freemasons do for local charities.

I believe I have achieved these objectives and in September I will be presenting a cheque to the South Lakeland Carers Association for all the monies raised not only from my sponsored walk, but from various other charitable events in which Freemason’s of Heversham Lodge and other Lodges have generously supported.  Details of how much money was raised and acknowledgements of all those who supported me will be published in the next newsletter and on the website.

Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement.

PS. You can still sponsor my 1000 mile trek if you haven’t already done so. Should you wish to do so, please contact Steve Pollard for a gift aid sponsorship form.
